I AM BETTER THAN ICE PRINCE, OLAMIDE, PHYNO and YUNG6IX - D.I.A

Often a time or two you hear or read someone make some serious claims about themselves, either about how invulnerable they are or by making hyperbolic brags about how far they can go on certain lyrical ish.... Many a time we have seen such wanabe's walk in oversized shoes but not today, not now and never on the Campus Vibes Blog.

Meet Didam Iliya Ajeye, a native of Kataf tribe from Southern Kaduna. He is the 2nd child in a family of 4 and currently a 500level student of Metallurgical and Material Engineering. Popularly known as D.I.A, he is one of those guys who have maintained that uncompromised passion for depthful rap unlike the shallow liners rushing to the booth today..
Campus Vibes was able to tap an interview off tha Rap knight during tha weekends and he took us down memory lane making some quite serious claims. Read for yourself....

Q: So what was life like growing up in tha north? I mean basically we still growing untill we are gunners buh what would you say tha journey through tha years has been so far?

Well growing up in the north has been a blessing I must say. I can't imagine growing up anywhere else though we go through lots of challenges at some point.. but its been normal for me. The journey so far hasn't been easy but still ... We living..

Q: Word!!! I love the optimism in tha air....... So who did you grow up listening to?

Urrm a lot of rappers actually but the likes of Nas, Jay-Z, Master-Ace, Kanye-West, Talib Kweli, Lupe Fiaso and Common Sense got more of my attention.

Q: Now that is one A-list of top dope, sick and mad delivering rappers you got there.... So its okay to say they influenced your style of rap today?

Well not really..... But lets just say I learnt a thing or two from some of them...

Q: Right, everybody got his own plate to fill....... Just to be on thesame page please tell us what genre of rap you specialize in and how it all started way back from the nursery rhyming days?

Well.... I'll say I'm more of the conscious type of rapper..... You can tell from my lyrics... I started rapping back in 2005..... from mimicking my favourite rappers lyrics to a point where I realised I had it in me... And i Decided to give it a shot.

Q: Damn boss! we need to open a lyrical church coz thats like revelation right?

Lool. Anything you say stands.

Q: Well I say lets cash tha paper. Buh that aside here is a very controversial question: would you say the depth of rap has been diluted especially here in Nigeria and we no longer have real punchliners like before except for a few faithful ones because most rappers now think about what material gain they getting than actually making depthful punches when it comes to making a song?

Well basically to the best of my knowledge, RAP is (rhythm and poetry) although I totally agree that the depth of real rap has deteriorated in recent times but real rap isn't actually weighed by the gravity of your punchlines and all that.... And I must say a lot of us get it wrong when judging rap. On my path punchlines dont prove how tight or dope a rapper is. just listen to the Rappers I earlier mentioned and you might get what I'm saying.

Q: Guess we'll all do and make the comparison. So how many songs would you say you have recorded?

Urrrm...... Honestly I've lost count but i'm sure they're more than 20. Honestly I've lost count but i'm sure ... i'll say A lot.

Q: Hehehe mehn we need to launch an MP3 mixtape of your songs coz its far more than I would have expected. Now talking the present, recently I have been hearing about the "T.M.I Mixtape", mind breaking it down for us.... What T.M.I means and what the Mixtape is all about?

Lool. Yeah T.M.I Means (Too Much INTELLISENS3) its basically a fusion of all the skill I got (rapping , singing and beat making) to make good music. I actually invented d word "intellisense" which I'll say is gotten from intellect and sense. I believe the Mixtape will speak for itself.....

Q: Hmmm enticing.... So when are we to expect this mixtape to drop, and are we to just keep anticipating with our arms crossed or is there a date set for the dropping already.... In other words you can say am just asking if it is gona be released anytime soon?

Yeah 28th March is the official release date but links would drop 1st April Latest...

Q: Correkt!!! Just to you know break tha ice a lil bit, we've all been about business and business, its high time we change the course of questions a bit though not for long.

Aiit, Feel free

Q: Now this is a question most playboys and bados wouldn't want me to ask, buh an interviewer gota ask what he gota ask. Mind telling us whether the Rap Knight is already victim to cupid's stings? See am doing this for my Campus Vibes Universe ladies, Shuga mummies and wanna be young grannies oh, do they got a shot or is DIA all taken?

Lool, Yes I am.

Q: Hmmmm you wanna tell us about her or is it all hush hush ish.... I know you artiste love the element of surprise.... Buh common you gota throw something we can catch for a while before you throw the main ball right?

Well she's quite older than I am , plus she's someone's wife.

Q: Hahaha you didnt just make the cat more curious did you? Coz tha wud be some mad thrill!

Lool well i hope i did.

Q: As much as I know ma people would want me to ask you to explain further I will just let this one pass (thinks a while) or on second thoughts mind sharing more light on the second part of your last answer?

Well I dont mind... What would u like to know about her?

Q: Tha fact tha you taken by another man's wife or in irony is that man who is supposed to be her presumed husband you? (Shii now am sure am really curious bout this) put me outa my mysery!!!!!!!!!

Looool... Well she's married to a man like that and the man happens to be my father.

Q: Hahahahahaha damn you didnt just do that to me!!!!!! I cant believe I fell for that..... Well guess we already seeing DIA's unlimited potentials. So are you particular about any of the song to feature on the Mixtape, and what names are we to expect on it?

( Listen or Leave) and a whole lot of others. No particular famous guest features, just normal underground cats like myself (Gotheeq, Izrayl the Griot, Snowflake, kheengs , Ross of BHP) and a whole lot of folkx.

Q: Nice!!!!!! Now personally am waiting on this Mixtape..

Yezzir

Q: So quitting the humility, call this bragging rights if you wanna: who among the current celebrity rappers making waves of hits in the industry do you think, wait lets be more certain, do you know you can smoke hands down on freestyle cypher, rap battle etc. Basically those celeb rappers you know you are better than without doubt?

A lot actually... Most I would say.

Q: Hehehehe we throwing straight shots right now boss.... Give me atleast 4 A-list trending rappers.

Loool I'm in d back seat right now... Na u dey drive shaa.

Q: Haha am just a cap driver who is told the final destination by the boss on tha back seat =D

Oga U are a stubborn cab driver. Urrm we got Ice-Prince, Phyno, Olamide, young 6ix......

Q: Waow!!!!! You just called out the best of the best............ There's alot riding on such claims buh guess 28th lota people gona get to believe in tha or say 'nah he just said that to get attention'. Still the fact remains that you don put a big pace you gota beat right now. So just for the fun of it...... Actually my favourite part of all these.... Ama need you to drop just 8bars of killer punclines utilizing crazy wordplay for me and the Campus Vibes Universe; Lets just feed on some deserts from your Bar kitchen...

I cant say much yall would listen and pass the verdict yourselves .... Well I'll drop you the 8bars:
*I'm a jack of all trades, I operate in multiple ways
*and if I no dey bring light, you are allowed to switch faces
*I'm in need a tailor to help make me fit in
*the materialistic society that we live in
*writing rhymes during lecture when I should have listened
*now I'm deeply lost in moment, busy wishing
*so presently I'm saying things that u never knew
*and the attention you all pay is my revenue.

Q: Damn, thats some mad and serious wordplay... Your game's really tight for me ryt now.. So any last words for your fans, and our loyal Campus Vibes Universe?

Well I won't say I have fans. I see them more like good people who appreciate good and intelligent music. God bless them all and widen their horizons.... Bless.
